(Daylight Tour)
Modena is a quiet and elegant town with a beautiful and well-preserved historical centre, with a stunning Romanesque art Cathedral and bell tower La Ghirlandina overlooking the main square Piazza Grande, both declared UNESCO heritage Sites, and if you do not know, Modena has recently become Unesco Creative City 2021 for Media Arts, with new media arts to explore!
This recent strong renovation process has not affected a strong local identity in the Modenese. You will sense this immediately.
Modena’s people make Traditional Balsamic Vinegar, housewives queue up to do the shop at the historical marketplace Mercato Albinelli or at traditional food stores that offer the finest local food products including Parmesan cheese, cured meats and homemade eggs pasta.
Modena is homeland to famous past and present celebrities: Ferrari brand’s founder Enzo Ferrari, passionate Tenor Luciano Pavarotti, and top Chef Massimo Bottura twice winner of the World’s 50 Best Restaurants prize with restaurant Osteria Francescana and creator with his wife Lara Gilmore of a new stunning project merging high-end accommodation, finest cuisine, art, and promotion of the Emilian countryside Casa Maria Luigia.
What do they have in common? A deep bond with Modena and Emilia-Romagna’s culture and a burning passion for life. The same passion of Modena’s food artisans!
Our Walking Food Tour in Modena’s historical centre is a true experience to savour local food culture, among street food and ancient food temples called “Botteghe Storiche” like local people do.
Vegetarian option available.
For Christmas Time (from December to 5th January of the New Year), the tour can be tailor-made to enjoy Modena dressed up for Christmas: Christmas lights, Italian presepi, art installations; same concept for food tastes, which will be related to Christmas traditions in Modena, like chocolate, Panettone or Pandoro, special cakes, and Tortellini in Brodo of course, to celebrate together!
